How to Replace an audi replacement key cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

Some of the signs of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely that your sensor is going bad and requires replacement. They're cheap and easy to find particularly if they're an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part would be a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues with your vehicle. It's an essential component of your Audi q5 key's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the audi car key replacement's crankshaft is spinning. If the sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission and the other car's components.

happy-young-woman-with-key-sitting-in-new-car-2022-12-16-21-31-14-utc-min-scaled.jpgThe G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor key for audi failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is the same across the audi tt replacement key 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find them in wrecking yards.
